சீமை இலந்தை ஒரு வகை கொட்டையுள்ள இன்தசைச்சாறு கொண்ட கனியாகும். இது ஆங்கிலத்தில் ப்ளம் (Plum) என்று அழைக்கப்படும். இப்பழம் , குழிப்பேரி (Peach) , சேலாப்பழம் (Cherry) ஆகிய பழங்களின் இனத்தோடுச் சேரும். சீமை இலந்தை இனிப்புச் சுவை கொண்ட கனியாகும். இப்பழம் பழச்சாறு , பழப்பாகு போன்றவற்றைத் தயாரிக்க பயன்படுத்தப்படுகின்றது . இதன் அறிவியல் பெயர் , ப்ருனுஸ் டோமேஸ்டிகா (Prunus Domestica) என்பதாகும்.

The subgenus is distinguished from other subgenera peaches (kuzhipperi), cherries (Chelaappazham), bird cherries and etc. Cheemai Ilanthai tastes sweet and/or tart; the skin may be particularly tart. It is juicy and can be eaten fresh or used in jam-making or other recipes. Cheemai Ilanthai juice can be fermented into plum wine; when distilled, this produces a brandy. The scientific name of Cheemai Ilanthai is "Prunus Domestica"
